Wilhelm Renz Locking Teak Sideboard / Credenza

Featured at DC

This gracious sideboard is an early example of Scandinavian Modern. Designed by Walter Wirz for Wilhelm Renz, Germany in the early 50s, it is crafted of teak. The front is broken into thirds; four deep drawers are on the left and two doors that swing open take up the center and right portions. Behind the doors, which can be locked, is an adjustable shelf for storage of larger items. The sculpted oval inset drawer handles are formed on the top and bottom of adjacent shelves for a very distinctive look.

The back legs are straight while the front legs are splayed for a very modern look. The teak has aged to a rich, dark patina and the graining is very subtle and beautiful. In addition to use in a dining room this is a great piece to use as a media cabinet or as storage credenza in an office. It is getting harder and harder to find the really early pieces of Danish Modern furniture in excellent condition.
