Gene Davis (1920-1985) was an American painter known especially for his representations of vertical stripes of color. One of the three principles of the Washington Color Painters, he spent most of his life in his hometown of Washington, DC and started out as a sportswriter. Later he was a White House correspondent before becoming one of the city’s most influential and important artists. Davis taught at the Corcoran School of Art in DC for many years. His work is in many museums including the Smithsonian American Art Museum.

This work is a screen print done in acrylic on paper. Two fields divide the print, light gray and lighter gray. Three pin stripes in the primary colors of red, yellow and blue line the left side while there is a band of white on the right. This print is numbered 29/100 and signed in pencil “Gene Davis 1976”.
