This sturdy chair from the middle of last century has many beautiful details which contribute to its overall handsome appearance. Conceived in the style of Widdicomb, it has a square frame firmly rooting it to the ground. Blocks on the front surrounding the joints at the arms and seat connections affirm the squareness. Yet its back — open, with spindles — alleviates the potential for heaviness. Further, the angle of the back gives the chair a lift. This is a wonderful example of Danish influence on American design. The upholstery on the seat is new and complements the tone of the wood perfectly.
